Lake Tahoe

We feel in love with Lake Tahoe. It offers a great deal of scenic views and excellent outdoor activities. It’s a great town!

Places we recommend staying:

Lake Tahoe Resort   It sits right at the boarder between California and Nevada. If you cross over the state line, it’s legal to walk around with a drink in your hand, while you’re exploring one of the several hotels ; Harvey’s, Harrah’s, Monte Bleu, Hard Rock.  Did I already say this was a great town.

Forest Suites

Or if you find yourself staying a long weekend we suggest renting out an AirBnB.

Places to eat:

If you’re close to the South Lake Tahoe area; all of your restaurants and places to eat are within walking distance. South Lake Tahoe is a great area for walking.

Stateline Brewery  Find yourself walking down into an underground restaurant right off the South Tahoe strip.

Azul Latin Kitchen  #1 Favorite Mexican Restaurant. The margaritas are phenomenal and pretty big. An experience worth sharing!

The Baked Bear  Need a late night dessert, The Baked Bear combines your love for cookies and ice cream and molds them together! The perfect and customized ice cream sandwich, nothing could go wrong here! It all taste scrumptious.

Nestle Tollhouse – Warm cookies- need I say more!

Series: Friday Favorites

I am trying to adjust to this whole posting and thinking of fun creative post. Many of my favorite bloggers do this series called “Friday Favorites” – it’s the best way to seek out and try new things.

Here are a couple of favorites so far

Money Making Mom

Money Making Mom – By Crystal Paine

Currently, I am loving this book. Crystal provides tips and tricks on becoming a better  you. She applies real life stories from women struggling to get out of debt, how to incorporate a supplemental income in your routine or lifestyle, or how to successfully start a business. Crystal is no stranger to building an empire. With her success on, she helps us all save and find ways to cut cost on various areas of our lives.

I like carbonated drinks and water and joyfully came across this delicious treat- LaCroix Sparkling Water.  My local grocery store carries a variety of flavors, my newest favorite this winter is Coconut. It’s like drinking a burst of Summer, in the tropics!

Love Kills Slowly Ed Hardy by Christian Audigierby is absolutely wonderful. A very sexy packaging and a luscious sweet smell, with a side of bad ass. It has a strong aroma of ruby red grapefruit, a very confident smell.

With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I look forward to the calm and quiet at the end of the night. Part of this nighttime routine is including a nice cup of hot tea.

Something I fell into at random was giving our bedroom a theme. When I was shopping for items to decorate our place I saw this sign and new it was what we needed to complete our theme, birds! We had just moved into our place in March. We needed to remind ourselves that no matter where we are and how we’re living, the greatest thing part about life is the love Jonathan and I share makes our home at coziest.

Turkey Trot 5K

Hello my fellow turkey-trotters!

For many of you the Turkey Trot lands on the day of Thanksgiving. However, I managed to find a run for Thanksgiving the Wednesday night before, I look forward to it every year.

It’s a festive night run lite up with Christmas decorations themed 12 Days of Christmas

One of my newest traditions.

Normally, I run it in solitude. This year I felt the need to extend the invite. So I invited my co-worker to join me and she happily accepted.

The weather held up for us and the night was intensely crisp and refreshing.

We finished within 40 minutes and enjoyed the rest of the night.Food carts lined up along the race path and one of them provided free cuts of grilled cheese.

The coolest prize was an entire loaf of Hawaiian bread and a whole Pumpkin Pie.

I’d say that’s a perfect end to a fantastic race.

What is your favorite race?

Roasted Holiday Spiced Nuts

Hi Friends!

This was a special treat for the appetizer table at Thanksgiving. It was enjoyed by all and made our place smell amazing!

Makes 6 cups of spiced nuts

  • 1 egg whites or (1/4 cup egg whites)
  • 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
  • 3/4 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups raw cashews
  • 2 cups raw almonds
  • 1 cup raw pecans
  • 1 cup raw walnuts
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2.  Whisk together egg whites with vanilla and maple syrup.
  3. Combine all nuts together and toss in the egg white mixture.
  4. In a small bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice.
  5. Pour spice mixture over nuts and toss to coat evenly.
  6. Spread nuts on a cookie sheet (make sure to coast with cooking spray) and roast for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, flip and roast for another 10 minutes, watching the nuts closely. The coated sugar may slightly brown the nuts.
  7. Take the nuts out of the oven, placing them into a large bowl, toss in the other 1/2 of pumpkin spice and 1/4 cup sugar (optional) over the nuts, giving it a more delightful hint of holiday with every bite.
  8. Place nuts in an air tight container for an hour, before serving.
  9. Enjoy!

Thanksgiving RECAP

Hello Friends!

Thanksgiving is absolutely my favorite holiday. There is something about quality time with family and gathering around the dinner table to make for a special memory.

Every year we spend this holiday at the coast at a near by camp with Jonathan’s extended family, mainly second cousins.

This year was quite the treat. We have been coming to this camp for several years and for the first time experienced a hike around the camp lake. I was not prepared for this adventure because I ended up hiking in wedges. Thankfully, the hike was covered in tree leaves and had stable footing.

The view from the top was breathe-taking!

After all the lovely festivities, the younger cousins wanted to play a round of touch football on the beach. My view as the referee was absolutely stunning. Not only did I get to take in the memories we all shared, but I was reminded how grateful we all were to have each other!

A Doering Lifestyle Blog + Who’s Who

Hi guys! First blog post as a newly engaged woman! I am excited to introduce A Doering Lifestyle.  Creatively thought of using my (almost) married name, Doering (pronounced door-ring)

My fiance, Jonathan and I have known each for 16 years and have dated on and off for 12 years. Needless to say he’s my best friend and we’re excited to take this next step in our relationship.

So without further ado…… Let’s welcome these important people…………….

We got engaged on September 27, 2017 and our wedding date has yet to be set, but we are aiming for Summer 2019.

He works for UPS since 2004 (right out of high school)  Jonathan shares my love for travel, movies and food! He doesn’t like to announce it, but he can throw back cookies like no other. He’s the absolute definition of a cookie monster.

Meet my sisters;

My tiny tot of a half-sister, Haley was a surprise baby. But the loveliest person you’ll ever get to meet. She’s driven for academics, loves to laugh and a goof ball at heart . Did I mention she’s a Valentine’s Baby! All the more reason to say we LOVE her!

Kaitland is our dearest rebel. However, she is kind and has a soft heart. She loves music, a pianist from her finger tips to her toes. She has taught herself how to read music and has marveled at every instrument. It’s a footloose kind of life in Kaitland’s world.

Chelsea is closest to me in age and in relationship, my twin pillar. I am so proud of my Marine sister! She enlisted about 3 years ago and continues to amaze us all with how strong she is mentally & emotionally. She recently became a mama’ to my baby nephew Michael (March 2017) We are absolutely lucky to have him in our lives! He is quite the bundle of joy. Chelsea married my brother-in-law, July 2016. He’s the best husband to my sister and a great example of a man to my nephew.

Mom, what can I say, she’s my twin and my first best friend. She’s multi-talented (probably where Kaitland got it from) and our biggest supporter.

She’s caring and an extremely hard worker. She stays active by chasing after Haley and being involved in all her school activities. I’m sure she never thought she’d be a “soccer mom” again! 🙂 All in all, she loves her all of us and we get along quite nicely!

Cary, is my step-dad and is the only dad, I’ve ever known. He plays the electric guitar and works in Sales and Marketing. Often times, he’s there to “tell it like it is” and a fairly intense man. But with a wife like my mom, it’s hard not to get him to chuckle every now and again.

If you haven’t noticed were a very laugh out loud kind of family. They’re my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s completely unfortunate we’re two whole states away from each other and I tend to miss them often.

Sit-back and enjoy the read……..
